Google adds animated Live Avatar to Gemini 3.8 Live for enterprise users

Google’s Gemini 3.8 Live update now includes a Live Avatar that can converse in real time with lip-syncing and facial expressions. The feature supports 97 languages and is initially limited to Gemini Enterprise customers. Google says the avatars carry SynthID watermarks and identity safeguards, and organizations can use presets or create their own.
Google's Live Avatar arrives roughly a week after the Gemini 3.8 Live model, which the company describes as handling visual inputs with near-instant processing. The avatar is initially restricted to Gemini Enterprise customers, not general consumers.
It can switch among 97 languages while maintaining video quality and avoiding visual drift, according to Google. A demonstration showed English and Japanese speech with matching mouth movements, plus the ability to display information on screen during conversation. Businesses may choose preset avatars or build custom ones; outputs carry SynthID watermarking and identity safeguards.
Live avatars could change how organizations deploy customer service, training, and virtual assistants, making interactions feel more human and potentially more engaging. That may also raise expectations around transparency, since users might struggle to tell AI-generated presenters from recorded people. Employees who appear in or authorize avatars may be particularly affected, as identity safeguards and watermarks become central to trust. The enterprise-only rollout may limit immediate public exposure while testing social and ethical norms.
