Isaac ROS 5.0 Brings AI Agents to Robotics Development

NVIDIA released Isaac ROS 5.0 at ROSCon in Toronto, adding agentic workflows and support for ROS Lyrical and Ubuntu 24.04. The GPU-accelerated package collection is designed to help the roughly 1.3 million ROS users build robotics applications with open-source tools. It also introduces reusable skills for setup and manipulation plus agent-ready documentation.
NVIDIA unveiled Isaac ROS 5.0 at ROSCon in Toronto. The GPU-accelerated package set now supports ROS Lyrical and Ubuntu 24.04, aiming to serve roughly 1.3 million ROS users. It adds agentic workflows, reusable setup and manipulation skills, and documentation designed for AI agents.
The update also includes a FoundationStereo fine-tuning skill for adapting stereo perception to specific cameras and environments. FoundationPose gains an agent-ready inference library that can track object position and orientation up to 5.5x faster. Pick-and-place is available as a standalone skill, while RealSense's AgenticROS links Isaac ROS with Nemotron and NemoClaw.
Robotics developers, researchers, and startups could see faster prototyping as agent-assisted workflows and reusable skills lower some barriers to building perception and manipulation systems. Smaller teams may gain access to capabilities once requiring specialized expertise. The tighter link between ROS, NVIDIA tools, and edge platforms like Jetson Thor may accelerate commercial robotics, while also raising questions about hardware lock-in, code verification, and how much developers rely on AI-generated components.
