Gemini on Pixel 11 Can Place Calls on Your Behalf

Google introduced Call for Me, a beta feature for Pixel 11 phones that lets Gemini make phone calls to businesses. The assistant can ask about stock, schedule appointments, navigate automated menus, and wait on hold, with a live transcript for the user. It requires a Gemini subscription and enrollment in the Phone app's beta, and it won't call emergency services.
Google's earlier attempt at automated calling, Duplex, let its old Assistant reserve restaurant tables before being retired. Call for Me brings that concept back with today's large language models, though it is confined to Pixel 11 owners in the US who use English, pay for Gemini, and join the Phone app's beta.
The feature can ask shops about product availability or set up appointments, work through phone-tree prompts, and stay on the line during waits. A real-time transcript lets users watch and step in. Emergency numbers are excluded, and the caller's voice is the same as Gemini Live's, even when a user's preferred voice carries an accent.
Call for Me could reduce time spent by consumers on routine business calls, especially for those who dislike queues or phone menus. It may also place new burdens on small-business staff, who might have to recognize and handle AI callers. If accents or noisy settings cause misunderstandings, frustration could land on workers. Wider use may normalize AI intermediaries in commerce, shifting expectations around consent, accessibility, and trust in everyday phone interactions.
