Microsoft revives Surface Mouse with haptics and a customizable button

Microsoft is bringing back the Surface Mouse after years without a new version. The $80 mouse is scheduled to arrive on October 13 and includes haptic feedback for clicks, window snapping, and object alignment. It also has a customizable action button that can be configured through the Surface app, including for Copilot.
Microsoft last released the original Surface Mouse in 2016, and it stopped selling its own keyboards and mice in 2023. Since then, Incase has offered peripherals described as designed by Microsoft, though the article notes they lack the same feel and comfort.
The new model adds Bluetooth 6.0 for pairing and switching between devices, an ambidextrous shape, and construction using 30% recycled plastic. Its action button is configured through the Surface app, which is preinstalled on Surface laptops and downloadable from the Microsoft Store elsewhere.
The return of a first-party Surface Mouse could matter most to Windows users who prefer Microsoft peripherals, including left-handed users drawn to its ambidextrous shape. Haptic cues for snapping and alignment may make some desktop tasks feel more tactile, while the configurable button could simplify Copilot or shortcut access. Its $80 price may limit adoption, so impact may remain niche among enthusiasts and professionals rather than reshaping mainstream computing.
