Meta Promotes Muse AI App as Downloads Surge Past 3 Million

Meta's new AI app Muse has seen rapid adoption since its September 8 launch, with Sensor Tower estimating more than 3.4 million downloads by Thursday. The app received a major promotional push at Meta Connect, where Meta announced features such as video chat with the Muse avatar, Mac computer use, a dedicated email address, and smart glasses integration. Muse has topped both the U.S. App Store and Google Play, and daily active users rose 27% after the conference.
Muse launched on September 8 and had already crossed 2.5 million installs before Meta Connect. By Thursday, Sensor Tower estimated over 3.4 million downloads, though other firms gave different figures: Apptopia said 4.3 million, while Appfigures saw about 2.3 million. The app is limited to the U.S. and Canada.
Meta Connect introduced video conversations with its avatar, Mac computer use, a dedicated email address, more connectors, and planned smart glasses support. After the event, Sensor Tower recorded a 27% rise in daily active users. Muse also held the top U.S. App Store spot from September 18 and Google Play from September 19.
Muse’s rapid adoption could push more people to treat AI assistants as everyday tools, especially through Meta’s existing social platforms. That may benefit users seeking convenient features, while pressuring rival AI apps to match Meta’s promotion and integration. Advertisers and developers might gain new channels, but the app’s reach could also amplify concerns about data use and platform concentration. How these effects unfold may depend on whether Muse’s features deliver lasting value beyond its launch momentum.
